The Importance of a Flared Base
Why every wooden dildo we make has a flared base, and the design rules we follow for ours.
Every design we make has a flared base. In all our years making dildos we’ve never made an exception, and we never will.
Safety first
For anal use, a toy without a base that’s clearly wider than the shaft can be drawn in and become hard to retrieve. That can mean a genuine trip to the emergency room. A properly flared base acts as a hard stop. Even for vaginal use, a defined base gives you something secure to hold and control.
Our rules for a good base
- Clearly wider than the shaft. Our bases run from 1.9” to 2.2” (4.8–5.6 cm), always well beyond the maximum diameter of the shaft above them.
- A smooth flare, not a sharp step. A gradual transition from shaft to base is more comfortable against the body, and structurally stronger.
- Rounded edges. There are no crisp corners anywhere that touches skin.
- Flat and stable underneath. Every piece stands upright on a table for drying and storage without rocking.
- Sealed everywhere. The underside of the base gets exactly the same finish as the shaft. “It doesn’t go inside” is no excuse for a weak spot.
Usable vs overall length
The base and neck take up part of the overall length. That’s why we list both overall and usable length on every product page, so you know exactly how much of the piece is insertable.
